Senna

Originally from Egypt, senna is now grown worldwide, including countries like India and Somalia. Most commercial products are derived from Cassia acutifolia or Cassia Angustifolia, commonly known as Alexandrian and Indian senna, respectively Senna is an herbal medicine made from the leaves, flowers, and fruit of a large group of flowering plants in the legume family. Extracts and teas made from senna plants have long been used as laxatives and stimulants in traditional herbal medicine. Today, senna is most often sold as a tea or over-the-counter constipation supplement, but it’s also occasionally used in weight loss pills and drink. This breakdown of sennosides mildly irritates the cells in your colon, an effect that stimulates intestinal movement and produces a laxative effect, and also studies show that Senna may help with Hemorrhoids as well.

Rhubarb
Though there is a debate whether it is a fruit or a vegetable, rhubarb is well sought after in ancient Chinese medicine for soothing stomach ailments. Today, it is quite popular in all of Europe and North America.

Rhubarb was found to reduce bad cholesterol, help aid weight loss, and since it is a low-calorie food choice, it sure can be a great addition to a weight loss diet. It also contains catechins, the same compounds in green tea that give it its beneficial properties. Catechins are known to boost metabolism, and this also helps burn body fat and aid weight loss.

Burdock
Burdock is a flowering plant, similar to thistle, which grows around the world. In many Asian cultures, its root is used as an ingredient in different foods, to boost the immune system, and as a treatment for coughs and throat conditions. Burdock roots are lean and white, growing up to two feet long.

Burdock roots contain phytochemicals, antioxidative agents that can be used to combat a variety of health conditions, especially those afflicting the limbic system and metabolism. Rich in fiber and essential nutrients and minerals

Burdock is high in fructooligosaccharides or FOS, which will eliminate the bacterial pathogens that can build up in the gut. Additionally, burdock increases saliva and bile secretions to help break down, bind, and excrete toxins from the body.

Licorice
The licorice plant is native to the lands of Asia and Southern Europe, and it has a classification as a weed in some of those areas.  Its most popular uses are in candy, sweeteners, and flavoring in tobacco products. This widely-used herb has established health benefits, and folk medicine uses it to treat all types of inflammatory diseases.

Licorice root helps conditions like acid reflux, and has a use for soothing gastrointestinal problems, in some cases of stomach ulcers, heartburn, and food poisoning. Licorice root extract can speed up your recovery from viral or bacterial infection, especially if you are using DGL or de-glycyrrhizinate licorice. DGL increases mucus production, protecting the stomach lining from excess acid production. Licorice is also useful in treating the symptoms of pain and cramping caused by ulcers.

Ginger

Ginger appears to be highly effective against nausea. It may help relieve nausea and vomiting for people undergoing certain types of surgery. Ginger may also help chemotherapy-related nausea.
